If you live in New England and are looking for an adventure or just simply need a quick getaway, you should definitely consider visiting Montréal. I consider myself an adventurous person that enjoys traveling, but I am also a full-time student, with a full-time job. Meaning, I really don’t have time to be as adventurous as I would like. I’ve been Montreal twice in the past few years, it is trip I look forward to doing more often and would recommend it to everyone. It is only a five-and-a-half-hour drive away from Metro Boston, and along the drive you get scenic views from both Northern New Hampshire and Vermont.
Not only is Montreal a fun place to go to, but it is also very affordable. There’s many things one can do while being there. You can see things like the Botanical Garden of Montreal, take stroll down Old Montreal and the Notre Dame Basilica of Montreal, the Biodome, the Gay Village which the streets are blocked off and the citizens roam street going from bar to bar and see live art being performed, or if it’s winter take stroll in RESO known as The Underground City, that is under the streets of Montreal and is 20 miles long. It’s also not difficult to find food or things you’re similar to, if you’re feeling homesick.
The people of Montreal are really nice, helpful, and quite friendly, it takes some getting use to especially when comparing to Boston. The rumor that if you don’t speak French, they well treat you poorly is very false, most of the people there speak multiple languages, and would try to communicate with you as best they can. As a matter fact there’s many different cultures, religions, and ethnicity in Montreal, it is a giant melting pot. If you wondering how Montreal looks like it is similar to Boston or New York City. My advice to everyone is go to Montreal, enjoy your time, there’s nothing stopping you, and trust me you won’t regret it.
