Whole Foods Market is a supermarket chain committed to delivering the highest of quality and the healthiest of products to their customers. Whole Foods has been thriving in the supermarket industry since 1980 and is a prominent front runner in the industry today.

Whole Foods Market has a strong social media presence on the following platforms:






Whole Foods Market is very involved with their use of social media including their Instagram Page. Whole Foods uses Instagram as a way to connect with their customers and to provide daily IG posts about products, recipes, promotions, etc. WFM has about 3.1 million instagram followers with which they engage on a daily basis. WFM does a good job of interacting with customers through posting stories on their instagram page and providing new seasonal recipes and recommended products from team members working for WFM.

Whole Foods Market promotes their instagram page to educate their customers on how to live a healthy sustainable lifestyle through the posts of photos, videos & stories.


WFM uses Facebook as its most valuable way of interaction with their customers. On their Facebook page, WFM can post wide variety of posts to engage their customers interests (photos, videos, events, etc.). Whole Foods delivers on their mission statement though every social media platform, but Facebook allows WFM to deliver content along with a discussion. WFM has enriched a large community of followers on Facebook totaling around 4.3 million followers on their Facebook page. WFM’s Facebook page is totally inclusive of everything you would think you would need involving Whole Foods Market. On the left hand side of their page is their contact information and a link to their website easily located for their followers to interact with.

WFM posts to their Facebook page on a weekly basis to ensure their customers are met with sufficient customer service and that new posts relevant to new product and promotional aspects are on display for their followers.


The first impression of the WFM Twitter page is the relevant use of photography. The WFM cover photo is a picture of berries pertaining to the healthy lifestyle that WFM promotes and the seasonal fruit that is popular currently on their sales floors. WFM tallies a whopping 4.5 million twitter followers with which they engage by posting photos videos and links to articles promoting the holistic lifestyle that WFM is all about. WFM engages with their twitter followers through posts asking for follower engagement, for example:

This type of social media engagement creates a strong bond between WFM and its customers and hits on their pride of customer service. WFM prides themselves on strong team members whom supply the utmost quality of customer service. For example, Whole Foods stores do not have isle numbers because the WFM team members are educated and apt to help any customer with any question of any product of their respective department. Moreover, such social media posts create a strong bond between WFM and their customers.

WFM posts to their Twitter page on a weekly basis to maintain a relevant social media page, but not burdening their followers in excess of posts. Whereas, WFM delivers concise tweets hitting on their mission statements and providing adequate customer services to their followers.


WFM uses LinkedIn to create a network amongst current and potential team members. LinkedIn is a social media network used primarily for professional networking purposes to ensure that employees can properly network with prospective employers. WFM cares about their team members dearly and use LinkedIn to promote healthy relationships with their workers by posting updates on local stores and updates in regional and corporate offices.

Whole Foods has about 388K followers on LinkedIn with which they connect through their social media posts on LinkedIn. LinkedIn is a community based on their team members. Customers most likely would avoid LinkedIn for customer service and customer engagement and would seek other platforms such as Facebook, Instagram & Twitter.

Digital Footprint: Whole Foods Market

The google search of Whole Foods Market yields only positive feedback from customers, store updates social media accounts, and articles on news surrounding the store. The search yielded customer reviews on local stores in my area which entails reviews on products and customer service. In addition, the search supplied links to the stores social media pages. Lastly, the search yielded articles on a variety of topics including: the partnership with amazon and the delivery of the new initiative Amazon Fresh.


Across all social media platforms, WFM is engaging customers directly and in a sustainable manner, making sure that they are only posting weekly and only supply the utmost quality of customer service molded in their stores by their team members.

A note of improvement: I would say that social WFM and their social media use is adequate, but could improve on Twitter. It is difficult because Twitter is a blog oriented social media platform, but if they were able to bolster their efforts on Twitter by posting more media content in opposition to blog oriented content it could help them immensely in my opinion.

Overall WFM is doing an outstanding job with their social media marketing and maintaining a strong and positive social media presence across all platforms. And it is important to note their digital footprint is positive in relation to their presence on social media. If Whole Foods can continue to maintain a strong and positive presence on social media and maintain their social media evolution, the sky is the limit in terms of social media marketing.
